In a case-control study comparing 245 thyroid cancer patients with 411 hospital controls in Northern Italy, frequent consumption of green vegetables was significantly protective against thyroid cancer. Green vegetables were identified as a major source of dietary iodine. Results remained consistent when analysis was restricted to subgroups by histological type, sex, and control groups.
