Hypnotherapy significantly reduces pain and anxiety in elderly gout arthritis patients

Three non-randomized interventional studies from the same Indonesian health center examined hypnotherapy's effects on gout arthritis patients. Across these quasi-experimental trials with pre-post test control group designs, a combined 47-51 elderly participants (17 treatment, 17 control per study) received hypnotherapy interventions. All three studies demonstrated statistically significant results (p = 0.000, α = 0.05, 95% CI) for reducing both pain scale scores and anxiety levels compared to control groups. Statistical methods included paired t-tests, independent t-tests, and MANOVA analysis. While the consistent p-values indicate strong statistical significance, the evidence base is limited by the studies originating from a single facility in Pamekasan, Indonesia, and the non-randomized design. Hypnotherapy may serve as a complementary approach for managing gout-related pain and associated anxiety in elderly patients.

A quasi-experimental study with pre-post test control group design examined 34 gout arthritis patients at Posyandu Elderly Pademawu Puskesmas, Pamekasan, divided into 17 treatment and 17 control group participants. Using Non-Probability Sampling with Purposive Sampling technique, the study applied paired t-test and independent t-test analysis with 95% confidence interval (α = 0.05). Statistical results showed Sig (2-Tailed) = 0.000, demonstrating a statistically significant effect of hypnotherapy on decreasing pain scale in elderly gout arthritis patients.

A quasi-experimental pre-post test control group design study conducted at Posyandu Lansia Puskesmas Pademawu Pamekasan enrolled 47 elderly gout arthritis patients, with 17 in the treatment group and 17 in the control group. Using purposive sampling and analyzing data with paired t-test and independent t-test at 95% confidence interval (α = 0.05), the study found statistically significant effects. The Sig (2-Tailed) value was 0.000, indicating hypnotherapy significantly reduced both pain scale and anxiety levels in gout arthritis patients compared to controls.

A quasi-experimental study with pre-post test control group design included 34 elderly gout arthritis patients at Pademawu Health Center in Pamekasan, Indonesia. Participants were divided into 17 in the treatment group receiving hypnotherapy and 17 in the control group. Using purposive sampling and validated questionnaires, MANOVA statistical analysis demonstrated a significant effect of hypnotherapy on reducing both pain scale and anxiety levels in gout arthritis patients (p = 0.000, 95% confidence interval, α = 0.05).
