Dairy triggers pro-inflammatory response in milk-allergic individuals

In contrast to the general population, individuals with bovine milk allergy experience increased inflammation from dairy consumption. This allergic response can exacerbate inflammatory conditions and should prompt complete avoidance of cow's milk products.

Systematic review of 52 clinical trials examining dairy and inflammation found divergent effects based on health status. While the overall inflammatory score (IS) indicated anti-inflammatory activity for most subjects, stratification by health status revealed that subjects allergic to bovine milk demonstrated a pro-inflammatory response to dairy consumption. The IS was indicative of pro-inflammatory activity specifically in this allergic subgroup, contrasting sharply with the anti-inflammatory effects observed in subjects with metabolic disorders.
